The top O2 bung port is cast in place to provide a superior location over others that weld to the lower tube, which is especially important in the Explorer ST’s tight engine bay and exhaust tunnel.

The cp-e™ downpipe set for the Ford Explorer ST is not like any other downpipe, it is designed from the ground up to offer the strongest and longest lasting downpipe available for the explorer ST. We have stressed every possible detail in this design, such as the one-of-a-kind cast, stainless bellmouth; made to last the lifetime of the vehicle. They are designed and manufactured to be significantly stronger than a flange and tube combination held together with a weld. The design was immensely cared for to create a specifically fit connection for the explorer ST. The top O2 bung port is cast in place to provide a superior location over others that weld to the lower tube, which is especially important in the Explorer ST’s tight engine bay and exhaust tunnel.
Our catalytic converter is brazed to the sidewall of the outer shell to allow full airflow, instead of the stuffed and rolled technique that reduces durability and longevity. It is then stamped on the endcaps to add strength and promote exhaust gas flow.
Further down the tube is the secondary O2 sensor, which is CNC machined in house to provide a perfectly coped fit on tubing for superior welding. This bung is much more accessible and does not require casting in place. It is mounted to the vehicle with CNC laser cut brackets made in house, versus others that simply use a rod and flat piece of sheet metal. This is a style that we are proud to do in order take everything just a little further.
The tubing is CNC bent using 16 gauge stainless and end-formed to keep it one piece. An advantage that we have over many others. We use a thicker stainless steel for downpipes because they are a highly stressed part due to temperature and vibrations and their location in the exhaust.
Fixtured and welded in house, our fixturing is another step that sets us apart, everything is designed on a computer and fixtured using CAD to ensure uniformity. This increases the time of the first run, but ultimately leads to a superior result.
Over the 20 years of doing business, we’ve held quite a few exhaust gaskets, by far the nicest one we’ve ever held was done on a Mazda, so we used this recipe as an outline to create our own. We’ve designed a custom, 4-layer stainless steel exhaust gasket. While most use 2 layers, we wanted to bring the best possible product to market so we took the minimum and doubled it! More layers allow the gasket to crush and deform more, which results in a better seal. These were designed specifically for the explorer ST, but we are taking this design across all downpipes soon!
